Typhoon Morakot Aid Charity Sales

The Tzu Chi Foundation, founded by Master Cheng Yen-a Buddhist nun-over 43 years ago in Taiwan, is the largest charity foundation in Taiwan. It has since grown into a global organization with over 5 million donators and 30.000 volunteers. Currently, the foundation has overseas branches in over 30 nations in the world, including the Netherlands.

Since 1991 Tzu Chi has provided emergency aid in over 60 countries. Recently, between August 7th and August 9th, Taiwan was struck by a devastating typhoon. Typhoon Morakot rampaged through Taiwan with a death toll of at least 614 and 72 missing. The typhoon caused the worst flooding in 50 year as at least 250 cm of rainfall was recorded within three days. The resulting material damage is huge. Rainwater caused landslides, washed away roads and undermined a dozen bridges. Tens of thousands of villagers have been cut off from the outside world.

It is easy to imagine how difficult the lives are for the survivors and how helpless they will be in the future. It is time for us to offer them a little help to reconstruct their homes by donating some money to them. For this reason Tzu Chi and several associations from Taiwanese Community are organizing a charity sale at:

The proceeds will be used to help in the reconstruction project organized by Tzu Chi. This project for Typhoon Morakot affected families adhere to four main principles: permanent housing, a peaceful mind, a peaceful life, and permanent schooling for the children.
